Hispanic Field Day

Rosa's Garden is a farm that produces different kinds of vegetables, chili peppers, lettuce, zucchini, tomatoes, and more. During the field day, we will be able to see the different fields, the production and development of vegetables. The Virginia Cooperative Extension - Virginia State University is hosting an ethnic vegetable workshop at Carter Farm (26444 Carters Lane, Unionville, VA). The Virginia Environmental Assembly brings together conservation leaders from across the Commonwealth to discuss Our Common Agenda to protect Virginia’s natural resources. This annual conference is hosted by Virginia Conservation Network, the partnership of more than 150 Virginia environmental organizations.

The Planet Has a Fever – What’s the Big Deal?

Heat is the most devastating aspect of the climate crisis our planet faces. The serious impact of heat on health (both physical and mental); environmental justice, agriculture and the planet, along with other related climate crisis topics, will be discussed by a distinguished panel of experts in a virtual format on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 6:30- 8:00 PM EDT. Questions and discussion with the panelists are encouraged. This free event is organized by Citizens’ Climate Lobby Charlottesville, and co-hosted by all Citizens’ Climate Lobby Virginia chapters.

Piedmont Wildflower Walk

Come and see our native Piedmont grassland at its best! This field has never been planted but it’s very diverse. We will be looking for slender lespedeza in full bloom, early goldenrod, and grassleaf goldenrod, among other grassland species. The Clifton Institute's Executive Director Bert Harris will lead this walk through one of our most interesting habitats and teach participants how to identify grassland plants.

Fall Native Plant Sale

Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy is sponsoring a native plant sale with trees, shrubs, flowers, vines and ferns available for purchase from local nurseries. The sale will be staffed by volunteers knowledgeable about native plants. If you have boxes for carrying your plants, please bring them. Read more here.

Our Common Agenda Educational Series

The Virginia Conservation Network will be hosting a week of education and content for each of the chapters within Our Common Agenda, including webinars featuring each chapter's authors. These events will highlight and explain the policy suggestions contained within each briefing book chapter while celebrating the people who have worked diligently for months to craft the 2022 Our Common Agenda policy briefing book.

Raptor Migration Field Trip

Every fall raptors migrate south along the Appalachian Mountains. Come and witness the peak migration of Broad-winged Hawks. If we’re lucky we might see thousands! The Clifton Insitute's Executive Director and ornithologist Bert Harris will lead the group and discuss how to identify raptors in flight. We will meet at Snickers Gap, where there’s an excellent view of migrating raptors and other birds.

Blue Ridge PRISM In-Person Field Sessions

Join PRISM’s knowledgeable staff and volunteers in the field to learn invasive plant ID, herbicide safety, and a how-to for manual/chemical control techniques. In-person field sessions will be held in Charlottesville’s Azalea Park on September 25 and Rappahannock County Park in Washington, Virginia on October 17.

Blue Ridge PRISM 2021 Fall Charlottesville Field Day

The in-person field session held at Charlottesville's Azalea Park will cover the identification of common invasive plants and demonstrate manual and chemical control techniques. Specific topics include herbicide safety, using hand tools and power tools safely, and identification of specific invasive shrubs and vines. Space for this event is limited to 35 attendees.

2021 Farm-to-Table Dinner

Please join us on Saturday, Oct. 2, at St. Bride’s Farm in Upperville for our annual Farm-to-Table Dinner, featuring locally-sourced food and beautiful views of the Piedmont and St. Bride’s Sculpture Collection. The purpose of the conference is to provide realtors with the background knowledge in agriculture, conservation and open space preservation to advise new landowner to the appropriate resources to help them make land management decision.
