PEC and partners from the Wilderness Battlefield Coalition held a community town hall on October 25, 2022 at the Locust Grove Middle School to share information about the proposed Wilderness Crossing rezoning and development in Orange County, VA.
Our Region
PEC focuses on nine counties and one city in the northern Piedmont of Virginia: Albemarle, Charlottesville, Clarke, Culpeper, Fauquier, Greene, Loudoun, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock.
We also team with local organizations to promote thriving communities and healthy natural resources in a much larger region, including the Shenandoah Valley, the central Piedmont, and the Journey Through Hallowed Ground Corridor. In addition, we are proud to serve as fiscal sponsor of the Coalition for Smarter Growth, an organization that focuses on land use and policy in the greater Washington D.C. area.

This time next year, I hope to be very busy preparing for Election Night coverage when local and state races will dominate the cycle. My career has always been in Virginia, where there’s an election every year. In the weeks to come, there could very well be the first announcements of who will be running. I will be here to help tell those stories.

It is strange to start a week off with the last day of the month, but that’s where we find ourselves at the end of this very spooky month. We’re now in the holiday season, with Diwali earlier this month and Halloween on Monday. This time of year affects the gravity of government meetings quite a bit.
PEC celebrates its 50th anniversary with Ridgeline: A collaborative art experience by ET Projects at Oak Spring Garden Foundation
Early in October, as part of its 50th Anniversary Celebration, The Piedmont Environmental Council welcomed several hundred schoolchildren, their families, and other community members into a two-night extraordinary collaborative performance, produced by ET Projects, at the Oak Spring Garden Foundation’s Rokeby Runway.
Resources from Warrenton Town Hall About the Proposed Amazon Data Center
After a successful town hall meeting in August, the local citizen group Protect Fauquier and nonprofit organizations Citizens for Fauquier County and The Piedmont Environmental Council hosted a second community town hall on October 26, 2022, on the impact the proposed Amazon data center could have on the Town of Warrenton and Fauquier County.
New Fifeville Trail Grand Opening set for November 5
Community leaders and residents of Charlottesville will now celebrate the formal opening of the new Fifeville Trail with a 10 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 5, rain or shine.

With recommendation of approval from both the Prince William County staff and Planning Commission, the “PW Digital Gateway” Comprehensive Plan Amendment is set for public hearing by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, November 1, 2022. This is a critical moment for the County and the entire region.
