The Piedmont Environmental Council is pulling together an alliance of organizations that share a vision of a better-connected community for walking, biking and other forms of active transportation in Charlottesville and Albemarle County.

The meeting will have two parts. During the first half of the meeting, Coalition representatives will discuss ongoing issues, most notably an upcoming (this winter) Mobility Summit, and we will share updates about new projects of mutual interest.

At about 5:15 p.m., we will hear from Heather Barrar, from the Friends of the Lower Appomattox River (FOLAR). Heather will tell us about FOLAR’s approach to Collective Impact and their efforts to connect upland residents to the river and surrounding parklands. The entire event is open to the public and it’s totally fine to only join for the second part.

Tentative Agenda Here

We believe that everyone in our community should have inclusive and accessible walking and biking options that connect them to education, employment, resources and recreational opportunities. These opportunities must be safe, comfortable, convenient, and free from physical and systemic barriers for people of all ages, abilities, races, ethnicities, genders, and socioeconomic status. Meeting this essential standard makes our community healthier, more sustainable, and more just.

This gathering will be the next step in creating a more formal coalition.
