George Mason University plant ecology students are helping The Piedmont Environmental Council measure the success of our wetlands restoration effort at Roundabout Meadows. With a grant from the Virginia Native Plant Society, the students are establishing a baseline dataset by collecting and identifying all plant species there.
Measuring Success
Stream health monitoring. Monitoring stream health involves measuring and recording long-term trends in stream conditions to measure success in conserving the Piedmont’s natural aquatic habitats and waterways. Since these streams eventually flow into larger waterways such as the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay, the protection of headwater streams is important for water quality throughout the region.
