It might be hard to believe with daffodils and pansies struggling to stand tall in the snow just last week, but we have it on good authority that spring really will be with us soon. Plan now to enjoy two great natural spectacles — brilliant bluebells and amazing azaleas. Shake off the winter doldrums and celebrate the return of spring in the Piedmont.
10th Annual Bluebell Walk
Sunday, April 14th from 1-3pm
Bonny Brook Farm, Catlett, VA
Cost: Free
Bring your friends and family along for a picturesque walk through farm fields that have been preserved forever with a conservation easement and then on your way to the bluebell covered banks of Cedar Run. It’s the perfect way to greet Spring.
The 10th Annual Bluebell Walk on Cedar run is sponsored by the Julian W. Scheer Cedar Run Land Conservation Fund and is free of charge to attend. Light refreshments will be served and the property is easily walkable for small children. Remember to bring your tall boots or waders — a special treat awaits those brave enough to wade across Cedar Run. For more information, please visit our website.
The Azalea Walk and Cocktail Party
Saturday, April 27th from 4-7pm
Brandy Rock Farm, Brandy Station, VA
Cost: $75
Join us at Brandy Rock Farm for a walk through a beautifully designed woodland trail that includes extensive plantings of azaleas and rhododendrons. The winding path provides a spectacular display of color for a few weeks in spring each year.
Following the walk, join guests on the terrace overlooking the large lake and beautiful gardens for cocktails and a sampling of local food prepared by Fotis Restaurant. Orchids from a large collection housed in two greenhouses on the property will also be on display.
Proceeds from the event will help support the publication of our Northern Piedmont Buy Fresh, Buy Local Guide — a local food listing sent to every household in four Piedmont counties. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit our website.
