Are you interested in more safe spaces to walk, bike or run? Do you crave better access to the great outdoors? Are you looking for other people ready to jumpstart a year of positive local action? The 5th Annual Charlottesville / Albemarle Active Mobility Summit is for you!
This year’s summit will focus on something big: the Three Notched Trail, an ambitious project to create a safe, accessible pathway for walking and biking from Charlottesville to the Blue Ridge Mountains…and beyond.
No matter your background, all are welcome! This free event is hands-on and collaborative, centered on learning, active participation and fellowship.

Summit Overview

I encourage you to sign up for both of the two sessions of the Summit, as they will not be the same. Thursday evening will provide background on the Three Notch Trail, why it is important and how the planning process will unfold. Cat Anthony, executive director of the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation, will give a keynote presentation about that fabulous trail connecting Richmond to Williamsburg — and how it is transforming communities along the way.
The next morning, attendees will reconvene for more detailed discussion. A panel of leaders from other successful and emerging trail projects across Virginia will share their success stories and lessons learned. That will be followed by breakout groups to dive deep into the issues discussed in both presentations. All throughout the summit, attendees will be encouraged to share their own visions.
Expect to come away energized and equipped with ways you can collaborate to improve connectivity in the community. The summit has been a catalyst for a lot of important work; past examples include mobile bike repair clinics, strategic neighborhood connections, Bike Month — and even, the Three Notch’d Trail!
Once again, you don’t need to attend both sessions to benefit, but it is encouraged. Both sessions are free and will include snacks and drinks (cash bar in the evening and coffee in the morning), plus opportunities for networking and fellowship.
We look forward to returning to the Rivanna River and The Wool Factory for another great idea-producing event.
