Dear Mobility Advocate,
Although the forecast is calling for scattered showers, trail conditions are good and the Loop de Ville is on track to happen tomorrow. Be sure to dress for the weather (including proper footwear) and check the web site for any changes before you head out. It’s unlikely there will be any but it doesn’t hurt to verify.
Our area trails are a collective endeavor and the Loop de Ville is its ultimate expression. So, no matter how you loop, I look forward to seeing you and many more familiar faces!
Loop de Ville Trailfest
Saturday, September 27
Start / Finish at Rivanna River Co. (1520 E High St.)

Speaking of getting around in new ways, the Piedmont Mobility Alliance is taking part for the first time in the national Week Without Driving, a program that illuminates the barriers many nondrivers face and a chance to discover new ways to get around town. You can sign up and find resources about transportation alternatives on Livable Cville’s subsite.

City Market Social Ride
Saturdays, starting Oct. 4, 10 a.m.
City Market (1st & Water Streets)
If you want to ride around the city, enjoy the safety of riding with a group and ride slow enough to talk to your neighbors, this ride is for you.

October is always a great time to get outside to enjoy the fall splendor. Here are two more gatherings that combine fresh air and active mobility
StoryWalk Ribbon Cutting
Wed., Oct. 15, 8 – 9 a.m.
Free Bridge Lane (at the Darden Towe Park end)
Come check out Sentara’s new interactive StoryWalk, in which pages of a children’s book are displayed along the path – encouraging reading, movement and community connection. We’ll gather briefly to mark the occasion, share a few words and coffee, and enjoy the fresh air together. We will also discuss ongoing and future improvements and strategies for building the Free Bridge Lane Promenade.

Halloween Bike Ride
Sun., Nov. 2, 3:30 – 6 p.m.
Charlottesville Community Bikes, 917 #D, Preston Ave
Save the date and get to work on your costume. This relaxed and social bicycle ride through the streets of Charlottesville is appropriate for anyone who is capable of riding a bike. It’s a fun (and spooky!) way to build confidence on the roads, learn secret ways around town and to meet new people.
The next seven days (and beyond) are going to be fun!
I look forward to seeing you soon ~
