Warrenton, VA, May 8, 2025 – This month, Dominion is holding three community meetings on the Morrisville-Wishing Star 500kV and 230kV electric transmission lines through Fauquier, Prince William and Loudoun counties. This project widens 36.5 miles of existing right-of-way for the new 500kV and 230kV transmission lines in Fauquier and expands the Morrisville Substation.
“To serve the explosive growth of data centers in northern Virginia, Dominion is seeking additional rights of way to build new sections of a transmission line mega project. These lines will have an enormous impact on our communities and natural resources, but Dominion has failed to adequately address offsetting those impacts in any way,” said Chris Miller, president of The Piedmont Environmental Council.
Dominion needs to do a complete analysis of alternatives and the local- and regional-level to include mitigation that will protect conservation easements, wetlands, forests, community open space, parks, trails, schools, and national historic areas.
“Much like the lack of transparency in its contracts with data centers, Dominion is shielding the public from the details – and moving this project on an accelerated timeline,” said Miller.
Another detail missing in Dominion’s materials is the plan to widen the existing transmission line corridor through Manassas National Battlefield Park by more than 100 feet.
“The National Park Service must submit a full Environmental Impact Statement to minimize the negative impacts on this national historic site. Likewise, citizens who live and work along this entire project should ask for more details and due diligence at Dominion’s scheduled public meetings this month,” said Miller.
These open houses will be held in Fauquier, Prince William, and Loudoun counties, and we urge the media and the public to attend and ask what alternatives have been considered and how the negative impacts will be mitigated.
