Special Announcement on Wilderness Battlefield

May 1, 2024 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

In April 2023, the Orange County Board of Supervisors approved an application to rezone more than 2,600 acres of fields and forest across from Wilderness Battlefield for the proposed “Wilderness Crossing” development.

This massive, industrial development poses a dire threat to the historic, natural and cultural resources of the surrounding area, including the nationally significant Wilderness and Chancellorsville battlefields, additional lands that are part of a Congressionally designated battlefield study area, and the entire Route 3 corridor, the historic trade route from the Port of Fredericksburg to Culpeper and other parts of Virginia.

In the face of this looming, incongruous development, on Wednesday, May 1, PEC and other members of the Wilderness Battlefield Coalition will join the National Trust for Historic Preservation for a special announcement about efforts to raise awareness about threats facing Wilderness Battlefield.

This event is open to the public, is free, and will be held rain or shine. On May 1, follow the signs for parking. If you can join us, please email me at [email protected]. An RSVP isn’t required but it is helpful to know how many people to expect. Wilderness Run Vineyards opens to the public at 11 a.m.
