Sanitary Authority enters battle against proposed transmission line

The Clarke County Sanitary Authority is fighting the proposed Valley North electrical transmission line project out of concern that it would harm the Prospect Hill Spring. The electrical transmission system would cut through the middle of the aquifer that serves the spring with about 2.9 miles of transmission lines and towers. Clarke officials say the project is designed to help other localities meet their growing demands for electricity and therefore would be of no benefit to the county.

71st Annual Clarke County Fair kicks off Sunday

The 71st Annual Clarke County Fair will kick off Sunday, Aug. 9, at the fairgrounds on West Main Street, and continue through Aug. 15. While designed to showcase agricultural activities in the county, the event includes carnival rides, food stands, music performances and other attractions of interest to the general public.

Opposition to transmission line still mounting

More opposition to the proposed Valley North electrical transmission line project was voiced during the Clarke County Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday afternoon. On July 13, the supervisors adopted a resolution formally and unanimously opposing the project.

Additionally, the School Board unanimously passed a resolution opposing Valley North’s Valley Link proposed transmission line project on Monday, citing concerns over potential impacts on residents and protected lands.

Berryville joins fight against transmission line

Berryville has joined the fight against the Valley North electrical transmission line proposed to run through Clarke County. In a unanimous vote Tuesday night, the Town Council adopted a resolution formally opposing the project.

Permit for White Post community facility gets nod from planners

Through the joint efforts of Abernethy & Spencer, Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy and nine homeowners’ associations, 1,000 native plants will be used to enhance efforts to fight back against invasive species. After moving from one location to another, greenhouse co-owner Jim Knowles decided to donate 1,000 native shrubs and trees to the conservancy.

Officials: VDOT taking steps to prevent more herbicide spraying damage
