750+ Trees Planted at Sky Meadows State Park

On Thursday, October 28 through Saturday, October 30 volunteers joined the Piedmont Environmental Council in a tremendous effort to plant a 3.5-acre riparian area full of native trees. Despite the rainy and muddy conditions, we are happy to report that over 750 trees were planted at Sky Meadows State Park in Delaplane, VA!

With proper maintenance and a little bit of luck, these trees should survive for the next few decades and will play a valuable role in filtering water that feeds into the Goose Creek watershed. The Goose Creek watershed is 385 square miles, covering nearly half of Loudoun County and one-quarter of Fauquier County. It is a designated state Scenic River as well as a major water source, providing drinking water to half of suburban Loudoun County and the City of Fairfax. You can certainly give yourself a pat on the back for helping to protect this precious water source!
