We have heard that Senate Bills 556 & 557 will be heard 15 minutes after adjournment of Senate Session in Senate Room 3 of the Capitol in Richmond on Thursday, Jan 23. Senate Session begins at 12:00 pm and the adjournment time depends on the volume of bills and patrons speaking during the session. Be there by 1pm to show your support or speak in favor of the bills. You can also reach out to members of Senate Transportation prior!

The 2020 General Assembly is in full swing and Senator Jill Vogel and Delegate Michael J. Webert have several bills submitted regarding the safety of Rt. 17. Constituents have long had concerns about speeding on Rt. 17 between Warrenton and Marshall so three bills are being considered that would:

  1. reduce the speed limit to 45 mph for tractor-trailers and other large vehicles designed for transporting property (SB558/HB940) (This bill was stricken on January 16)
  2. double fines for speeding in this section (SB556/HB946),
  3. add permanent electronic speed indicator signs (SB557/HB941).

To support one or all of these bills, email members in both transportation committees:

House Transportation Committee members: https://virginiageneralassembly.gov/house/members/members.php?committee=H19 and express your support.
