Information about the Spectra Energy gas pipeline proposal through the Piedmont.

In early August, Spectra Energy announced it is "suspending its development work on the proposed [project]... We will continue to evaluate opportunities in the region which could include the study corridor in your area, and should there be developments, we will keep you informed."

The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is hosting a series of public hearings on the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP) and Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP). These public hearings are designed to seek public comment on the DEQ’s proposed water quality permit (401 Certification).

At several of PEC's public meetings we have been asked to post links to websites that might help landowners and other interested people learn more about interstate gas pipelines. Here are some of the links that have been shared with us:

As many are aware, Spectra Energy has announced a proposal for a new natural gas pipeline through the Piedmont. To share what we know, as well as hear from potentially impacted residents, we will be hosting a series of community meetings. The meetings will take place in Rappahannock, Culpeper and Orange.

A resolution titled "Rappahannock County Opposition To The Construction of An Underground Natural Gas Transmission LIne within Its Jurisdiction," was passed by the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors on July 7, 2014. The resolution urges Duke Energy to select another proposed corridor for its energy needs.

Spectra Energy has announced plans for a gas transmission pipeline through Virginia. The map Spectra has released is not very detailed. However, we have used their map as a starting point for more detailed maps.

The following presentation was given at a July 2014 community meeting sponsored by PEC, on the subject of natural gas pipeline proposals in Virginia.

We have received word that landowners throughout the Piedmont had begun receiving notices from Spectra Energy, referencing a proposal for a new natural gas pipeline through Virginia. Spectra is distributing a map and a fact sheet in the mail. Find out more.
