‘Meet the Farmer’ Dinner Series to Promote Local Farms and Food

Over the past five years, Virginia’s Piedmont has experienced an unprecedented demand for local foods.  In order to support that growing interest,  The Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC) is hosting a series of  Field to Plate - Meet the Farmer dinners.  These dinners are designed to celebrate and support local farms and foods; provide education and outreach on the importance of local food in our region; and increase awareness about where and how local foods are produced.

PEC has supported regional farms and producers for over 40 years through our work in land conservation, land use planning, the distribution of our Buy Fresh Buy Local food guides (which reach over 250,000 households each year), and our Rural Agriculture and Economy Program.  The proceeds from these dinners will benefit PEC’s continued efforts to promote local agriculture by connecting farmers and consumers.

The dates and locations for the  dinners are:

  • June 30th -- Historic Long Branch (Clarke County; $25 per adult, $15 per child over 3 years)
  • July 20th -- East Lynn Farm (Loudoun County; $150 per adult  -- ticket includes cookbook)
  • August 3rd -- Moriah Farm (Fauquier County, $75 per adult)
  • August 11th -- DuCard Vineyards (Madison County, TBA)
  • September 8th -- Annadale Farm (Orange County; $25 per adult, $15 per child over 3 years)

Although the dinners are part of a series, each has unique features and components. The dinners at Historic Long Branch and Annadale Farm will be a picnic-style family BBQ. These festive, family-friendly BBQs will include live music, participation from local farmers and businesses, and presentations from local food experts. East Lynn Farm’s dinner will feature celebrity chef and author Pati Jinich -- who will be preparing recipes from her newly released cookbook, Pati’s Mexican Table, in an elegant and interactive setting. The proceeds from the dinner at Moriah Farm will benefit the Fauquier Education Farm -- which promotes agricultural education and social responsibility relating to fresh, local food. The food grown at the education farm supports the Fauquier Food Bank.
