SUMMARY:Community Meeting on Energy Infrastructure and Data Centers - Charlottesville
DESCRIPTION:Learn more about data centers and surging electricity demand\, and the potential for new transmission line projects in Albemarle County\, the City of Charlottesville\, and surrounding areas tied to the explosive growth of data centers in the region. \n\n\n\n\nRSVP →\n\n\n\n\n**Save The Date: We are planning to hold this meeting on Tuesday\, Feb. 6 from 6:30–8 p.m. at the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center. \n\n\n\nOver the last few years in the Virginia Piedmont\, there has been a proliferation of data centers — the physical structures that store the digital world — and the energy infrastructure they will require. The explosive growth of the data center industry represents a major challenge to achieving a clean energy future in Virginia and has resulted in thousands of acres of rural land lost with the brush of a pen stroke\, along with adverse impacts to land and water and energy-intensive structures\, at the expense of Virginia ratepayers. \n\n\n\nThe electrical transmission grid operator\, PJM\, has indicated a preference to expand an existing transmission line running through Albemarle County and Charlottesville\, which looks like it might supply a future data center. \n\n\n\n**Space is limited. Please register to guarantee your spot. We’ll follow up via email in January with more details. \n\n\n\nQuestions? Contact Faith Schweikert at fschweikert@pecva.org.
