In addition to the upcoming tree planting\, the farm is working closely with MDVA\, the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay\, and other environmental organizations to construct a bedded pack barn to reduce runoff to local streams and keep cows cool\, clean\, and dry. The farm also utilizes cover crop practices to keep soil and nutrients on the farm and out of local streams. \n\n\n\nVolunteer activities include tree planting\, which involves scalping (removing grass with a hoe)\, digging holes\, planting\, and pounding wooden stakes. If you sign up for an afternoon shift\, an additional activity might include quality control checks of the planted areas. This is a family-friendly event\, and volunteers of all ages are welcome! SUMMARY:Protecting Shenandoah's Brook Trout
DESCRIPTION:Shenandoah National Park protects incredible natural resources including iconic brook trout\, but climate change knows no boundaries and is already increasing temperatures in the Park. Many of the Park’s brook trout populations are in decline\, but there are bright spots\, and a new effort from the Park and Shenandoah National Park Trust seeks to understand where brook trout are doing well so those areas can be protected from other stressors. During this event\, we will discuss what we know about the status of brook trout in Shenandoah\, what makes their populations go up and down\, and what we can do to protect them. This event kicks off our celebration of National Park Week. \n\n\n\nhttps://www.snptrust.org/event/warming-waters-protecting-shenandoahs-brook-trout/?blm_aid=44834817

SUMMARY:Solar Open House in Warrenton
