Agricultural Water Risk Assessment and Best Practices

Join the Future Harvest Chesapeake Alliance for Sustianable Agriculture for the second of three on-farm workshops on food safety. This session will focus on water! Without water there would be no fresh produce. At the same time, pathogens are easily spread through water use. Knowing how to assess and manage this vital resource is critical to reducing produce safety risks.

In this module, we will conduct a water system assessment and discuss water quality requirements, including potential sources of contamination and practical strategies to reduce risks. We will discuss how to maintain and monitor water quality and review water testing and treatment options, demonstrate taking a water sample, and learn about different irrigation systems. We will hear from irrigation expert David Giusti.

This workshop is useful for established farmers and valuable for beginning farmers looking to make food-safety compliant choices.

This event is being hosted by The Piedmont Environmental Council at their Community Farm. Virginia Cooperative Extension is sponsoring.
