What's in it:

Our Buy Fresh Buy Local guide helps Loudoun residents find local farms, restaurants and markets. It's released every spring, right around this time. In Loudoun County, the guide was sent to 133,287 homes, and features over 150 local food producers and businesses. Among the listings are 75 local farms, 13 farmers markets, 29 wineries/breweries/distilleries, 18 restaurants, and 13 retailers.

Other items include a reminder for upcoming farming events like the Loudoun Farm Tour happening May 20-21st, a fruit and vegetable availability calendar, tips on canning for home and business, and a nutritious recipe for salad vinaigrette to put on your spring greens. The guide also features profiles of Loudoun Valley Homegrown Market Cooperative which runs seven farmers markets (five summer, two winter) in Loudoun County, and Brossman’s Farm Stand that provides gardening plots for their community.

The handy travel map included in the guide is your weekend road map to vegetable, berry and livestock farms with open hours, farmers markets, restaurants, and wineries, breweries and distilleries.

We also highlight a couple PEC projects related to local agriculture -- an update on the land stewardship projects at Roundabout Meadows at Gilbert’s Corner, and a success story from one of our farmland leasing social events.

'Thank You' to our partners

The publication of this guide would not be possible without the support of our local partners and sponsors. We would like to thank the diverse group of businesses who have partnered to bring the guide to Loudoun County residents including:

Wegmans and NOVEC and local food industry sponsors including Loudoun County Department of Economic Development, Loudoun Valley Homegrown Markets Cooperative, Virginia Food System Council, Loudoun Farm Bureau, Farm Credit of Virginia, Lost Corner Farm, Willowsford Farm, Potomac Vegetable Farms, and Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum.

We would also like to thank one of our volunteers, Alyssa Wiltse, for writing two articles for this year's guide.
