2003 Virginia Voter Survey
• Conducted by: Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Columbia, Maryland (301) 519-9688
Published 1/28/03

Methodology

This survey was conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research, Inc. from January 14-21, 2003. A total of 1194 Virginia registered voters were interviewed by telephone. The statewide sample
of 626 registered voters were interviewed by telephone January 14-16, 2003. All stated they regularly vote in state elections. Margin for error for the statewide sample is plus or minus 4%. In order to have statistically valid samples in the high impact regions of Northern Virginia, Hampton Roads, the Central Piedmont and the Lower Shenandoah Valley, 300 registered voters in each of the four regions were interviewed January 14-21, 2003. Margin for error is plus or minus 6 for each of these regions.

Each stated margin for error means that there is a 95 percent probability that the "true" figure would fall within that range if all registered voters were interviewed.

Those interviewed were selected by a random variation of the last four digits of telephone numbers. A cross-section of telephone exchanges was utilized to ensure an accurate reflection of the demographic profile of each of the counties.
