The Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC) is seeking to hire a Building and Grounds Maintenance Coordinator to conduct and assist with maintenance and upkeep of the building and grounds for PEC’s Headquarters, located at 45 Horner Street in Warrenton VA.

Description of Position

The Building and Grounds Maintenance Coordinator will be a part time position of 10 to 12 hours per week, with additional time to ensure emergency tasks can be completed, when they arise. The Coordinator is responsible for understanding the mechanical, electrical and HVAC (geothermal) systems of the Horner Street building.

In addition he/she will be responsible for the general upkeep, maintenance and minor repairs for the interior or exterior of the organization’s premises. We will rely on the coordinator to keep our facilities attractive and in good working order condition, doing routine maintenance and various odd jobs. The candidate must be well-organized and demonstrate a good working knowledge of general repair skills. A keen eye for detail and physical stamina are valued greatly in this job.

Core Responsibilities

Tasks associated with this position include but are not limited to:

  • Performing routine maintenance of the landscaping including mowing, weed control, and watering as needed.
  • Performing maintenance and light repairs of equipment and appliances.
  • General upkeep and minor repairs of HVAC/Geothermal system and other systems of the building - change/clean filters, light repairs, maintenance scheduling and recordkeeping, etc.
  • Coordinate scheduling of tradespeople with major electrical, plumbing or HVAC repairs.
  • Manage recycling materials, garbage and compost materials.
  • Undertake painting, light construction and/or carpentry projects as needed.
  • Undertake duties as assigned or emergency tasks (e.g. shoveling snow on walkways and stairs and patio).
  • First responder to calls related to alarm, fire, and elevator monitoring systems.
  • Other routine maintenance responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School degree, GED or Associate's Degree in related field.
  • A working knowledge of typical building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.).
  • A working knowledge of small machinery related to the care and maintenance of landscapes.
  • Good communication ability.
  • Well-organized and apt in problem-solving.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Requires minimal supervision.
  • Willing to work occasional weekends and evenings.
  • Valid driver’s and reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Proximity to office location.

Compensation

  • Compensation will be on an hourly basis, commensurate with experience.
