PEC works toward energy solutions that emphasize efficiency first, use appropriate technologies for the 21st Century and respect the scenic and historic character of the Piedmont.

The Piedmont Environmental Council has some experience dealing with Dominion and transmission line proposals through our region. In 2006 and 2008, utilities proposed two unnecessary high-voltage transmission lines that would connect to the oldest and dirtiest coal-fired generation in the United States. Learn more about the TrAIL line (approved and built) and the PATH line (turned down). More recently, a series of projects has been proposed, each with its own set of details and impacts.

When appropriately sited, renewable options such as solar, wind and geothermal, can perform an extremely valuable function - providing peak power close to the load, energy security, cost savings, local employment opportunities, and emissions reductions.

During the summer of 2015 PEC members can take advantage of Solarize PEC!

Solarize PEC is a cooperative program with The Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC), Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP) and the Northern Virginia Regional Commission to bring solar power to more people in the Commonwealth. The Solarize program is a grassroots effort that has already been successful in communities across Virginia.
