The Piedmont Environmental Council
We are pleased to announce that Julie Bolthouse has taken the position of Fauquier County Land Use Field Officer for The Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC), effective December 1, 2012.
Julie has worked for PEC since 2010, and previously served as Land Use Coordinator. In this position, she coordinated all of PEC’s staff who were working on local policy in our nine-county service area. Over the past two years, Julie has worked closely with Fauquier County officials and community organizations on a range of local issues -- from the County’s Comprehensive Plan to individual applications for development. In the past few months, Julie has been a leader on rural economic development issues, raising concerns about long-term consequences of proposed changes to the zoning ordinances and expansions of service district boundaries.
In her new position, Julie will monitor land use activities in the County and regularly attend community meetings -- such as the Fauquier Board of Supervisors’ and Planning Commission’s meetings. She will keep the public informed of happenings throughout Fauquier, as well as provide support to other community groups and the local government. Julie will engage with citizens through community education and outreach while assisting on local, state and national campaigns.
Before working for PEC, Julie served on staff of the Rapidan Rappahannock Regional
Commission as well as the GIS Department of the City of Alexandria. Julie has two masters degrees from Virginia Tech -- one in Urban Affairs and Planning and the other in Natural Resources. She is a lifelong resident of the region, and is excited to continue her work in this new capacity for an organization that strives to protect the land she grew up on.
