Reading the Land – Historical Ecology Nature Walk &Talk

November 10, 2018 10:00 am - 10:00 pm
Location: Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve, 21085 The Woods Road , Leesburg, Virginia

Have you ever wondered what Banshee Reeks and Loudoun County looked like a hundred or even thousands of years ago? Dr. Emily Southgate, an historical ecologist, will describe how old maps and other records, aerial photographs, plants and especially pollen can be used to revisit historical land cover of the county and changes to the present day. She will interpret the historic vegetation in terms of the interactions of plant succession, human impacts, and climate change, with illustrations from specific landscapes familiar to most in the county.

The group will meet at the Education Annex at Banshee Reeks. Parking is free in the lot on site. Takes place rain or shine!
