Mental Health: The Nature-Based Fix

Friday, March 23rd, 2018, 10:00 AM
Location: Central JMRL Library, East Market Street 201, Charlottesville, Virginia

Sally Atkins and Melia Snyder (Nature-Based Expressive Arts Therapy) and Florence Williams (The Nature Fix) will discuss their nonfiction books on the mental health impact of nature and spending time outside.

Why should you attend?

“A much-needed book that will greatly contribute to expressive arts therapy. Our world urgently needs us to start practicing and living the ideas of sustainability and care laid out by Sally and Melia.”—José Miguel Calderon, Director of TAE Perú

“[A] lively exploration of what modern research has to say about the myriad health benefits of the great outdoors… Williams resists the tendency of so much nature writing towards easy epiphanies, adopting a tone that is, instead, pleasingly puckish… [She] puzzles out the pros and cons, concluding, on balance, that there’s a good case for connecting with nature to extend both the quantity and quality of life.”—Wall Street Journal
