Improving Traffic Flow on Rt. 29 in Fauquier/Prince William
VDOT recently completed two studies concerning Route 29. VDOT now envisions a limited access highway with grade separated intersections for the section of Rt. 29 between Warrenton and Prince William -- similar to the plans for Route 29 in Gainesville.
PEC, with funding from a variety of sources including Fauquier County, Citizens for Fauquier County, and the Vint Hill Economic Authority, hired Dane Ismart, a national leader in access management, to develop a different vision for Route 29 between Warrenton and Prince William County.
The Route 29 study is going very well. Dane Ismart has come up with a number of intersection designs that will improve safety and traffic flow well into the future. The designs have the advantage of being around a tenth of the cost of VDOT proposals and have a much smaller impact on businesses and the surrounding environment.
PEC and the County are hosting a public meeting to go over all of the designs May 5, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at the John Barton Payne building. Possible intersection designs may be viewed here (PDF, 8.2 MB).
