Proposed Zoning Changes to Fauquier Equestrian Regulations

The equestrian industry has long been a crucial part of the fabric of Fauquier County. It is enjoyed by a large percentage of residents, provides employment for hundreds of citizens, and supports public policy of being agriculturally friendly.

However, this may be jeopardized if Fauquier County approves proposed zoning changes to its current regulations on horses. The proposed changes are vague and imprecise, and may regulate or place a burdensome permit process or consider some activities illegal-- such as certain small competitions, shows and hunt activities. The full impact of these changes on the horse industry cannot be determined and the current ordinance should not be changed unless the Board is aware of the full ramifications.

The proposed ordinance will be discussed at the upcoming Board of Supervisors public hearing on January 14th with a vote expected in February. Attend the upcoming public hearing or contact your supervisor and encourage him to vote "no" on the proposed ordinance-- and to not make changes that would hinder this important part of Fauquier's economy.
