If legislation circulating on the Hill is adopted, transmission lines will soon be relabeled "green". Even if the new lines would be used to ship dirty, coal-fired generation and cheaper cleaner alternatives haven't been pursued.

Led by PEC and the National Wildlife Federation, 11 regional and national environmental organizations filed suit against the Department of Energy over its final designation of a mid-Atlantic National Interest Electric Transmission Corridor.
Virginia Governor Kaine and Attorney General Bob McDonnell have submitted a Request for Rehearing, calling DOE's designation "unlawful" and in excess of Federal Authority. Other states including PA, MD, and NY have also filed.
