Here's a bright idea: the Bright Futures Project!

The Bright Futures Project is a grassroots program by the Piedmont Environmental Council to educate students about the importance of energy conservation through selling compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) as a school fund-raiser.

Through the project students learn about the environment, energy production, energy conservation, and the benefits of Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs), while raising money for their schools and reaching out as ambassadors for energy conservation in local communities.

The program has both educational and fund-raising components. First students learn about energy conservation, the benefits of CFLs and how they help reduce greenhouse gases and home energy costs. Then they bring their knowledge home to teach adults about the benefits of the bulbs and encourage them to make the switch - while raising money for their local PTO at the same time!

One of the best parts about Bright Futures Project, besides saving local families money, reducing greenhouse gases, and raising money for PTOs, is that it can be easily implemented alongside any other fund-raising project. There's no need to give up wrapping paper sales; you can just add CFL sales to your normal fund raising activities.

Students, families, schools and communities win in this program! We invite students, educators, and others to learn more about Bright Futures Project's mission, energy conservation, and CFL bulbs at this site by clicking on the links to the right.
