Number of Approved New Housing Units Surpasses 15,800


If you have spent any time driving around Charlottesville and Albemarle, you no doubt have noticed the large number of houses recently built and currently under construction. PEC has recently (October 12, 2007) updated it's analysis of area residential development, and has found that over 15,800 housing units have been approved by elected officials in Charlottesville and Albemarle since 2000. According to this analysis, an additional 2,800 units are proposed by area developers. View detailed spreadsheet of developments (pdf).

On September 12th, 2007 the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve Biscuit Run and Hollymead Town Center (Area A-1 & A-2), adding a total of 4,328 housing units to Albemarle County's residential development pipeline.
