We recognize that energy conservation and efficiency are the most effective solutions, because using less is always cleaner than any new energy source. We are committed to conservation and efficiency, but recognize that personal choice is not enough. Therefore we demand that industry and government take action to make sure that measures to reduce energy use are put in place.
We recognize the effort to expand coal-by-wire and we reject it. We oppose its immoral methods and outcomes. We oppose the environmental and social injustice of mountaintop removal coal mining. We oppose the expansion of old, dirty power plants in the Ohio River Valley and their contamination of our air and water. We recognize that new transmission lines are being built to bypass environmental safeguards and to bring this dirty coal energy to market. We reject this end-run on our health and our environment, and we reject efforts by the Federal Government and industry to overrule efforts by states to protect their citizens.
