Todd Benson

“President Theodore Roosevelt observed that ‘conservation of natural resources is the fundamental problem. Unless we solve that problem it will avail us little to solve all others.’ Since then, human demand for resources has increased, not diminished. Roosevelt’s admonition remains true. Concrete, asphalt, and unnecessary power lines are insanely flowing toward Fauquier County. As PEC has demonstrated time and again, a group of people committed to protecting thePiedmont’s rural economy, natural resources, history, and beauty can make a difference.”

Todd Benson joined the Piedmont Environmental Council in 2007 as the Fauquier County Field Officer. Todd spent most of his career working on local government issues including service as a town planner, county zoning official, town attorney, and county attorney. He has taught land use, environmental law, and U.S. government at T.C. Williams School of Law, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Lord Fairfax Community College. He is a former chairman of the Environmental Law Section of the Virginia State Bar and a former elected member to the Hanover/Caroline Soil and Water Conservation District Board. Todd received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University, his law degree from T.C. Williams School of Law, and a Master of Interdisciplinary Studies (Environmental Studies/Urban Planning) from Virginia Commonwealth University.Todd spends his spare time gardening, with his wife Tami, and hiking and canoeing.
