2003 Poll: Virginia Voters Overwhelmingly Support Better Growth Management
Mason-Dixon Polling & Research provided a comprehensive briefing in 2003 on the findings of their recent 1200-person poll of Virginians' attitudes toward development and growth management. 74% of those polled agreed with the statement, "I am concerned that the current pace of growth and sprawl is threatening the quality of life in my county."
This survey was commissioned by the Virginia League of Conservation Voters, The Coalition for Smarter Growth and the Piedmont Environmental Council. Core to each of their missions is to advocate for public policies that preserve and enhance the quality of life in Virginia. One of the greatest threats to the quality of life in Virginia, as well as communities around the Mid-Atlantic Region and the nation, is the general failure to effectively manage growth and development. In order to successfully advocate and represent an informed position of the residents and voters of Virginia, these organizations sought to better understand the public's awareness and attitudes towards growth management issues and public policy.
