Please mark your calendar for a free technical training workshop on the Center for Watershed Protection's Better Site Design approach Wednesday, November 18 from 9am - 2pm in the lower level conference rooms at Ida Lee Recreation Center.

Participants will learn about the principles of Better Site Design (BSD) and apply techniques to achieve BSD through a hands-on exercise using a local case study. The Center is a nationally recognized non-profit organization that has been working with local communities for the past 17 years and has provided training to over 25,000 people in local governments working on land use and stormwater management practices

The goal of the workshop is to provide a suite of site development practices which will help achieve more environmentally-sound and economically-viable development in Leesburg and Loudoun County. The workshop will provide Leesburg and Loudoun County staff, developers, engineers and interested others with ways to build and redevelop a site which works with its hydrology and natural features. This approach results in cost savings to the developer, site owner and to the community because it reduces costly environmental impacts and need for future retrofits.

The Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC) promotes watershed planning and water quality improvement as part of its land use and land conservation mission and is sponsoring this workshop with a grant from Fairfax Water and support from the Town of Leesburg. The grant was awarded to support land use practices that help to protect the Goose Creek water supply watershed.

Please RSVP by November 5th to Gem at gbingol[at]pecva.org with Better Site Design in the subject line, or call 703-431-6941 with your reservation and/or request for more information. Lunch will be provided.
