Orange is a leader in private land conservation with over 29,000 acres protected, including more than one third of the land in the Madison Barbour Rural Historic District.

This map shows the over 27,000 acres of privately protected land in Orange County as well as publicly protected lands.
3,072 acres were conserved in 2007, bringing the grand total to over 25,000 acres of privately conserved land.
