"The Newton Marasco Foundation, headed by president and founder Amy Marasco Newton, has received word the Environmental Protection Agency has awarded the organization a $20,240 grant for water quality monitoring on the stream that runs through the Chapman-DeMary Nature Trail in Purcellville...Establishment of the trail has been a joint project between the town, NMF, the Piedmont Environmental Council and Loudoun Valley High School."

"The Board of Supervisors yesterday tapped the brakes on the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority’s plans for a passive recreation and natural park near the intersection of Rt. 50 and Rt. 15, instead voting to send it to committee for further review and discussion."

VDOT seeks feedback for Route 53 safety improvements

"The Virginia Department of Transportation is holding a design public hearing this evening for a set of projects to improve safety on a 1.7-mile stretch of the Thomas Jefferson Parkway, Route 53, in Albemarle County. “Route 53 is an incredibly important thoroughfare in the Scottsville District,” said county Supervisor Christopher Dumler. “It’s also a road that carries many visitors and tourists to some of our community’s greatest cultural treasures like Monticello and Ash Lawn and Michie Tavern.”"

Governor OKs Dulles rail funds

"Gov. Robert F. McDonnell (R) has signed off on an agreement with the other funding partners of the Dulles rail project that includes a promise of $150 million in additional state funding. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, Loudoun County, the Federal Transportation Administration and Fairfax County also have approved the agreement, which aims to reduce the core cost of the rail line from Reston to Loudoun County to $2.8 billion."

The Loudoun Sesquicentennial Committee, consisting of individuals and organizations concerned with local history, particularly the Civil War, staged a year-long series of events in 2011-re-enactments, lectures, exhibits and presentations designed to give residents and visitors a sense of what took place in Loudoun 150 years ago in scenes that were duplicated across the country."
