The Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC) is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that has proudly promoted and protected the natural resources, rural economy, history and beauty of the Virginia Piedmont since 1972. PEC empowers residents to protect what makes the Piedmont a wonderful place, and works with citizens to conserve land, protect air and water quality, celebrate historic resources, build smart transportation networks, promote local farms and food, restore wildlife habitat and improve people’s access to nature.

Description of Position

Each year, PEC updates our three Buy Fresh Buy Local print guides -- Charlottesville Area, Northern Piedmont, Loudoun County. These guides list local food businesses (farms, farmers markets, restaurants, retailers, specialty beverage makers and value-added producers) within our Buy Fresh Buy Local chapters, profile local farmers, list regional food and farm events, have articles related to local agriculture in order to connect the community with local food our Piedmont farmers offer. The guides are printed and mailed to over 280,000 households within PEC’s service region.

PEC is looking for three interns to assist in updating the local food business profiles that will be listed in the print guides. Each intern will be in charge of updating one BFBL chapter publication.

Comfortable contacting BFBL partners (by email and phone) to collect updates to the previous year’s guide. Strong oral and written communication skills. Access to a personal computer. Knowledge and experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Office productivity software. Requires minimal supervision.
